Think Progress » Hours After Siding With States On... →
In last night’s Republican presidential debate, all four candidates said they supported California’s efforts. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney emphasized that states should “be able to make their own regulations with regards to emissions.” But Romney didn’t want to side with the environment for too long. The AP reports that “[a]fter the debate,” — and after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger...

What is it with Bush and his fetish for causing death? The administration declined to release specifics of what programs under Medicare would be affected in the budget, but this proposal is nearly three times the $66 billion in cuts to Medicare last year. The Medicare cuts would be carried out over five years.

Not So Superdelegates | The Nation →
If the race goes down to the wire, an elite contingent of superdelegates—unpledged party operatives and elected officials not chosen by primary voters—could play a decisive role, even though most voters don’t know they exist. How could the Democratic Party be so, well, undemocratic?

Dispatches from the Culture Wars: MySpace Deletes... →
Social networking site, MySpace.com, panders to religious intolerants by deleting atheist users, groups and content. Early this month, MySpace again deleted the Atheist and Agnostic Group (35,000 members). This deletion, due largely to complaints from people who find atheism offensive, marks the second time MySpace has cancelled the group since November 2007.

Progressive Ferengi
One interesting thing about the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition: Rule #113: Always have sex with the boss. Since in Ferengi society women weren’t allowed to make profit (or wear clothes, travel, or talk to strangers) then they couldn’t be the boss, right? Is this Rule an endorsement of homosexuality? How about gay-for-pay?

Also in the Senate, Democrats are offering rebates for the wealthiest Americans so that Grassley and other “fiscal conservatives” in the GOP will accept a few million for unemployment benefits. Can you imagine, Republicans holding out benefits for the unemployment casualties of their own economic failures just so the richest Americans can get a few extra dollars?

About 18,000 homes and businesses in Arkansas remained without power Wednesday afternoon after winds ripped across the state and killed two people the day before, marking the start of a cold-weather snap in Arkansas that could bring snow to the state’s north. Indiana Senate Passes Anti-Gay Amendment  →
The proposed constitutional amendment defines marriage only as the union of one man and one woman. But, it goes to say the state cannot provide the “incidents” of marriage on unmarried couples or groups.  The second part of the amendment would block domestic partner benefits from being offered state employees or institutions funded by the state, say opponents.

Obama Calls Clinton Divisive Figure | AP  →
Obama depicted Clinton as a calculating, poll-tested divisive figure who will only inspire greater partisan divisions as she sides with Republicans on issues like trade, the role of lobbyists in politics and national security. At the same time, he elevated McCain, fresh off victory in Florida’s crucial primary, as the likely Republican nominee.

You might think that what went wrong was the man’s use of baking soda to treat what he thought was indigestion. (According to Rowe, it was stomach pain caused by an ulcer.) So, are we better off now than we were before Ralph Nader helped throw the 2000 and 2004 elections to George Bush? How has his grand plan helped our country? There has been NO positive change, whatsoever, from Nader having entered either race. The only possible impact anyone can point to is that Nader may have handed the presidency to George Bush, twice.
