A Saudi judge has refused for the second time to annul the marriage of an 8-year-old girl who was wed to her father’s 47-year-old friend in order to settle a debt between the two men (who are “close friends”). The girl’s mother had petitioned for the divorce, but the judge, Sheikh Habib Al-Habib, “insisted that the girl could petition the court for a divorce once she reached puberty.”
